...because using littlelamb nappies will save you money and will help to save the environment. And because littlelamb is a family run business committed to customer service, you can be assured that you will have all the help and advice on hand to help save your sanity.

Saving money
I was a single teenage parent with my first son in 1995. My mother took me to a store and we bought 24 terry square nappies, 2 safety pins and 10 nylon over pants. It was a cost thing for me then, as it is now, as washable nappies are far, far cheaper in the long run. I have had six babies over a period of eighteen years and have seen the humble terry nappy disappear from the shelves to be replaced with a complicated array of real nappy systems. When Nick and I paid a fortune for washables for our baby Roo in 1998 we knew it was time to manufacture and launch a nappy that was simple to use and affordable.
If you trundle down to your local store and pick up throw-away disposables with your shopping you probably will not realise the cost over two and a half years.
NHS Paediatricians suggest newborns should be changed 10-12 times a day and older babies about seven times, ending with just one being used at night-time.
Assuming an average of seven changes a day over the nappy wearing career of your baby, you will use about 6300 nappies.
The average branded nappy cost 50c in 2009. That’s $3100 just for nappies for one baby.
A Littlelamb cotton birth-to-potty kit comes delivered to your door at $700, add to this the laundry costs (detergent, electricity, water, wear-and-tear on your washer) of $330.50 over your baby’s nappy career and you will pay just over a $1000.
If you’re planning more children in the future, using Littlelamb cotton nappies will then save you over $2700 per baby as you only have the laundry costs.
Outstanding quality fit and design
Nick and I come from a manufacturing background. We spent years manufacturing jeans, shirts and t-shirts and understand the importance of quality. We started the business by making the nappies on the kitchen table, hand finishing every nappy. Nick still insists each nappy is checked in the factory and again in the warehouse before it gets packed.
Each nappy will be machine washed a minimum of 160 times. They take a hell of a beating. We source the best quality fabrics and components available to make them last. There are very few items your've ever owned that would last 160 washes!
When we say that they can be used for one or more babies we mean it. I expect to hand down all my childrens clothes and I insist that the same will be said about our nappies.
The design has evolved through both personnel experience and recommendations from our customers. The elastic is not too loose so that anything escapes but not too tight it leaves babies skin chaffed and red. The nappies have fold-back-and-seal laundry tabs to ensure that you don't open the washing machine to a huge tangle of nappies all bound together. The pul wrap has a double seam leg gusset and the fabric used is a hightec breathable fabric that ensures baby does not overheat.
In fact you can rest assured that our nappies have been designed by a mum who has really used them, not by a designer who wants to jump on the "eco" band wagon.
Saving the environment
Littlelamb nappies will help to preserve the environment for your baby’s future by not clogging up land fill with over one tonne of stinking, pathogen-leaching, single-use throwaways.
It is not just your immediate surroundings that are affected. Take a look at the bigger picture.
It is estimated that over 1.3 million trees are chopped down each year to produce “disposable” nappies for the New Zealand market.
Reusable nappies use 3.5 times less energy, 8 times less non-renewable materials and 90 times less renewable resources than “disposables.”
Littlelamb nappies are made in a family run factory in Turkey. The carbon footprint is reduced as they are made close to the cotton fields; 25% of the fabric ends up on the cutting room floor and is recycled in nearby facilities, facilities that just don't exist in New Zealand any more. They are freighted around the world by sea to ensure that we keep our carbon footprint to a minimum, giving you piece of mind.
Family run business.
Littlelamb is a family run business, run by Nick and myself, Esme. We have used washable nappies on all of our 6 children. We have struggled with wriggly babies, wondered at the variation of the shapes of our babies, been amazed at just what a nappy may contain, and have been staggered at the cost of the nappies. We have seen the new revolution of the washable nappy market, and feel it is time to take the mystery out of washables, and put the common sense back.
Lets face it, using washable nappies is not rocket science. You use a nappy, that goes on and fits like a disposable, then you take it off, flushing the poo away into the sewerage system where poo belongs, and wash it. That’s it. No folding, no pins, no soaking and no fuss. If you have been looking through the web, and have been bamboozled by terms such as prefold, pocket, fanfold etc, you are now in the right place. Sanity reigns here. We make a basic necessity product, at exceptional quality, and sell them at a sensible price. We do not believe that something as basic as nappies should be aspirational.
There are many washable nappy sellers out there, most of whom sell other peoples products. There are also many manufacturers who sell to other people. We manufacturer our own nappies to the very highest quality, and sell directly to yo, ensuring we can offer you the very best value washable nappy kits you can buy.
We deliver complete kits straight to your door, containing all you need to start using washable nappies. Its simple, the bigger the kit, the better the value. No need to go and buy a bucket, look for wraps that fit, get spare boosters, it’s all here, ready to go.
Save your sanity
